Day 30, Match 39, KKR vs GT highlights, IPL 2023
BADSHAHBOOK: At the iconic Eden Gardens cricket stadium, the Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Kolkata Knight Riders on a day that featured overcast conditions. Shubman Gill showed early promise in the Titans' chase, but Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed cheaply after making only 10 runs.
The GT skipper, Hardik Pandya, then joined Gill at the crease, and they managed to take the score to 47/1 in just five overs. However, it was Andre Russell who provided the first major breakthrough for KKR by dismissing Saha during the powerplay.
In their innings, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a competitive total of 179/7 against Gujarat Titans, thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz's superb innings of 81 runs, followed by a brilliant cameo from Andre Russell who made 34 runs on his birthday. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Titans' bowlers, taking three wickets, while Joshua Little and Noor Ahmad each took two wickets. Gujarat Titans now required 180 runs to win the match.
Kolkata Knight Riders had a shaky start in their innings, losing Narayan Jagadeesan early after he scored 19 runs. The team was 23/2 after just three overs, and it was Mohammed Shami who provided the crucial first breakthrough for the Titans. Shardul Thakur has then promoted up the batting order to partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Gujarat Titans have been in solid form this season and are among the favourites to reach the playoffs once again. They have been playing as a cohesive unit, with a collective approach rather than relying solely on individual brilliance to win matches.
Hardik Pandya has been an inspirational captain, leading the team to defend below-par scores and also surpassing the 200-run mark on a couple of occasions.
While the defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders earlier in the season was a setback for the Titans, they quickly bounced back and currently occupy third place on the points table.
KKR managed to return to winning ways with a victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but they still need to win at least five of their remaining six matches to secure a playoff spot.

Gareth Foster, KKR's batting coach, emphasized the importance of playing fearless cricket and taking the game on. He pointed out that the team had been in a similar situation in 2021 when they had lost four games in a row in the first phase before bouncing back in the UAE leg to reach the final.
Foster believes that KKR can emerge victorious in this match by playing with confidence and consistency.
