  BADSHAHBOOK: Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a 23-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 held at the iconic Eden Gardens on April 14.

  The match was highlighted by the superb ton from England star Harry Brooks, who smashed a 55-ball-100, becoming the first and only cricketer to score a century in both PSL and IPL.

  After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl first against Hyderabad, but they were not prepared for the super batting display that awaited them. Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to their best start this season, hitting four fours and two sixes within the first three overs.

  Brooks, who was acquired by Hyderabad for a whopping Rs 13.25 crore after his exploits in Pakistan, was the star of the show, notching up his first century of IPL 2023.

  Although Brooks was given a lifeline when he was 45, he made the most of it by smashing 12 fours and three sixes to attain his century. Aiden Markram, the captain of Sunrisers, played a quickfire 26-ball half-century as well as partnered with Brooks for a 72-run partnership in 47-balls.

  This duo touched quick fifties keeping their run rate around the ten-run mark. After the dismissal of Markram, Abhishek Sharma (32 runs in 17 balls) became decent support for Brooks, and the duo achieved 72 runs in 33 balls piling on KKR's misery.

  Hyderabad ended up with a mammoth 228 for 4, the highest total put up by a team in IPL 2023 so far.

  In response, Kolkata's chase got off to a horrible start, as Bhuvneshwar and Jansen rocked them with the new ball, reducing them to 20/3. Skipper Nitish Rana then took on the Hyderabad bowlers in the middle order, but it was Rinku Singh's late assault that almost gave Kolkata a chance to pull off another miracle.

   

  However, Hyderabad's death bowling was a lot better than Kolkata's, and the match ended with Hyderabad securing a 23-run victory.

  Brooks' performance was undoubtedly the highlight of the match, as he found his lost rhythm back, having scored just 29 runs in his first three matches in IPL 2023. He was well supported by Markram and Sharma, who contributed significantly to Hyderabad's mammoth total.
