BADSHAHBOOK: In a thrilling encounter at IPL 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched their third win of the season by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by nine runs. The victory propelled SRH to the eighth spot on the points table, while DC remained at the bottom, suffering their sixth loss of the season.
During the chase of a daunting target of 198 runs, DC seemed to be in a strong position after a century partnership between Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh.
However, the match turned on its head when SRH made a terrific comeback with three wickets in as many overs. DC finished at 188/6 in 20 overs, despite Salt's 59 and Marsh's 64 runs. They were unable to build on their captain's early dismissal and fell short of the target.
Earlier, SRH's Abhishek Sharma and Henrich Klaasen played blistering fifties, propelling SRH to 197/6 in 20 overs, the highest total at the Arun Jaitley Stadium this season.
Klaasen and Abdul Samad initiated the late push, pushing a quickfire 53-run stand for the 6th wicket. However, DC's Mitchell Marsh landed two big blows in an over to dent SRH's innings.
SRH skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to field first, expecting no impact from dew on the dry wicket at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Both teams have been struggling with their batting this season, with DC's Prithvi Shaw being one of the big disappointments.
DC head coach Ricky Ponting expressed disappointment and said they would work on different things to improve their performance.
