Day 51, Match 68, KKR vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2023
BADSHAHBOOK: In their final league game, the Lucknow Super Giants clinched a spot in the IPL playoffs by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders with a nail-biting one-run victory in their final league game. The match took place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where Nitish Rana, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, won the toss and chose to field first. The Lucknow team made a couple of changes to their playing XI, bringing in Karan Sharma and Krishnappa Gowtham in place of Deepak Hooda and Swapnil Singh. On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders decided to stick with the same lineup from their previous match.
The Lucknow Super Giants got off to a rocky start, losing early wickets and finding themselves struggling at 73 for five in just 10.1 overs. However, Nicholas Pooran turned the tide with a scintillating innings, smashing 58 runs off a mere 30 balls. He formed a crucial partnership of 74 runs for the sixth wicket with Ayush Badoni, which helped the team reach a competitive total of 176 for eight.
In pursuit of this target, Rinku Singh played a sensational knock, remaining unbeaten on 67 off just 33 deliveries, while Jason Roy contributed a brisk 45 runs off 28 balls. Despite their valiant efforts, the Kolkata Knight Riders fell agonizingly short by a solitary run, finishing their innings at 175 for seven.
Under the leadership of Krunal Pandya, the Lucknow Super Giants have displayed commendable performances in recent matches, even in the absence of their star player KL Rahul. The overseas duo of Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis has been in impressive form with the bat, consistently contributing valuable runs to the team's cause. However, the team's overseas bowling options have failed to live up to the expectations, posing a concern that needs to be addressed as they progress into the playoffs.
On the other hand, Rinku Singh has emerged as the standout performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season. He has been a consistent run-scorer in the lower middle order and has excelled in the role of a finisher, playing crucial innings to propel his team towards victory. His contributions have been invaluable to the Knight Riders' campaign.
Prior to the match, the Kolkata Knight Riders' head coach, Chandrakant Pandit, took responsibility for the team's inability to capitalize on the home advantage at Eden Gardens throughout the IPL season.

Despite managing to secure a victory in their away match against the Chennai Super Kings, the Knight Riders have struggled to perform at their home ground, suffering defeats in four out of the seven matches played at Eden Gardens.
Pandit clarified that when they refer to home advantage, they simply mean winning matches at their home ground, and it has been disappointing for the team not to achieve more victories in familiar conditions. The coach acknowledged the team's frustration and expressed a desire to rectify the situation moving forward.
As the IPL playoffs draw near, both the Lucknow Super Giants and the Kolkata Knight Riders will look to regroup and fine-tune their strategies. Lucknow will aim to maintain their winning momentum and build on their recent successes, while Kolkata will be determined to bounce back and make a strong push for the playoffs. The competition promises to be fierce as the teams battle it out for the coveted IPL title.
