Day 18, Match 24, RCB vs CSK Highlights, IPL 2023
BADSHAHBOOK: Chennai Super Kings bounced back from their heartbreaking loss to the Rajasthan Royals last week with an impressive eight-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.
The Super Kings displayed tremendous composure to fight back and secure the win, after the Bangalore side appeared to be in a strong position to chase down the highest run-chase in IPL history, thanks to a massive third-wicket partnership between skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.
Despite a horror start to their chase of the 227-run target, losing the wickets of Virat Kohli and Mahipal Lomror with just 15 on the board, Maxwell and du Plessis staged a stunning comeback. Maxwell's 36-ball 76, which included eight sixes and three fours, combined with du Plessis' 62 off 33, helped stitch a partnership worth 126 off just 61 deliveries.
Chennai was guilty of putting down a number of catches, including two by Maheesh Theekshana, but their skipper MS Dhoni turned the tide by poaching two tough chances to dismiss Maxwell and du Plessis, turning the game in Chennai's favour.
Chennai's bowlers then managed to hold off late fightbacks from Dinesh Karthik and Impact Player Suyash Prabhudessai to secure the victory. Earlier in the day, opener Devon Conway played a crucial role with a swashbuckling 83 off 45 balls, stitching valuable partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane (37) and Shivam Dube (52) to lay the foundation for a sizeable score. Moeen Ali later struck an unbeaten 19 off nine balls to ensure CSK finished on 226/6.

Bangalore had a solid start to their campaign with an eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, but then hit a roadblock, suffering an 81-run thrashing against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata followed by a 1-wicket loss in an exciting thriller against the Lucknow Super Giants at their home.
Nonetheless, they managed to bring back the shine with a 23-run win against the Delhi Capitals at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Saturday, alongside Vyshak Vijaykumar grabbing 3/20 in his debut and also ensured that he would remain contended for the high-profile encounter with their southern rivals on Monday.
Chennai, on the other hand, is coming into the game after a five-day break, having suffered a narrow three-run loss in another nail-biter, despite a late burst from skipper MS Dhoni and the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who could have helped CSK for a win with his unbeaten 59 runs.
Chennai right now holds the better net run rate of the two sides, as well as a sizable victory over the Royals could help them save four spots to the 2nd position on the points table.
