Day 39, Match 53, KKR vs PBKS Highlights, IPL 2023
BADSHAHBOOK: In a thrilling match in Kolkata, KKR emerged victorious over PBKS by five wickets. Captain Nitish Rana played a crucial role by scoring a brilliant fifty before Andre Russell led a late blitz. However, it was Rinku Singh who became the hero by striking the winning boundary off the final ball of the chase when KKR needed only two runs to win.
During their chase of 180, KKR lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Nathan Ellis, and Jason Roy's good form was halted by Harpreet Brar. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 57 runs as PBKS made 179/7 after choosing to bat first, with Varun Chakravarthy taking 3/26 for KKR. Dhawan was dislodged by Nitish Rana, and Rishi Dhawan struck a couple of big shots before becoming Chakravarthy's third victim. PBKS made 58/3 in the Powerplay but eventually lost by five wickets.
PBKS started off quickly, with Prabhsimran Singh striking three fours in the first over, but Harshit Rana jolted them twice, catching Singh behind and accounting for Bhanuka Rajapaksa for a duck.
Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to bat, believing the wicket looked a little dry and wanting his batters to put up a good total. KKR captain Nitish Rana said he would have batted first and revealed that they are unchanged.
As the teams started to focus on the various permutations and combinations to check their playoff chances, Knight Riders knew they could not afford any more slips in the upcoming games.
KKR played their first match of the IPL 2023 at Eden Gardens over a month ago, winning against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Since then, they have lost all three matches at home, and three of their four victories in ten attempts have come in away games.

They will play two games in a row at home, the first of which is against Punjab Kings, who have scored four 200-plus totals in a row, an IPL record, and conceded 200-plus runs in four consecutive games as well. PBKS is just one place above KKR in the standings, and a win tonight will propel them into the top three.
