BADSHAHBOOK: In an exciting IPL 2023 match at the Chepauk stadium on Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings got the victory over Delhi Capitals by a margin of 27 runs. Despite a partnership between Rilee Rossouw and Manish Pandey, DC failed to chase down the target of 168, managing only 140/8 and recording their seventh loss of the season.
DC struggled early in their chase, losing three wickets, including opener Mitchell Marsh who was run out for a paltry score of 5 due to a miscommunication with Pandey.
The early dismissal of the top-order batsmen put the visitors on the back foot and it was a matter of time before the CSK bowlers capitalized on their advantage. Deepak Chahar then dismissed DC's openers in successive overs to give CSK the upper hand.
While several CSK batters got starts, they failed to convert them into big scores due to the consistent blows dealt by DC bowlers. Despite this, MS Dhoni's quickfire 20 off 9 helped CSK reach 167/8, giving them a decent total to defend. Shivam Dube also played an attacking knock of 25 off 12 before falling to Mitchell Marsh.
DC's spinners, led by Axar Patel, caused trouble for CSK's batsmen, with Axar taking two wickets in successive overs to remove both openers. Lalit Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav also picked up wickets to keep CSK on the backfoot. However, the steady partnership between Rilee Rossouw and Manish Pandey was not enough to take DC over the finish line.
CSK elected to bat first after winning the toss. DC made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Lalit Yadav for Manish Pandey. MS Dhoni predicted that the pitch might slow down later in the night, which would make batting difficult.
DC has shown a marked improvement in their recent matches, winning four out of their last five games after suffering five consecutive losses at the start of the season. Their overseas recruits, particularly Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh, have been in good form, while Rilee Rossouw has also shown some promise. However, David Warner has struggled to find form since his half-century in DC's first win, scoring only 45 runs in the next four innings, including a duck.
CSK has steadily improved across all departments and currently holds the second spot in the table.
