BADSHAHBOOK: A full house at the Eden Gardens, enthralled by Shahrukh Khan's presence, ended in glory as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs in their first home match of IPL-16.
Kolkata Knight Riders showed great character to overcome the odds with a blockbuster at the Eden Gardens on Thursday to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore convincingly. At first, the home team posted a huge total of 204/7 until their spinners blocked the visitors to 123 all out.
In a highly entertaining match, RCB took an early advantage by dismissing five KKR batsmen for just 89 runs in 11.3 overs, but it was Thakur's show from there and he scored 103 runs for the 6th wicket having batsman No. 5 Rinku Singh (46) to turn the match in KKR's favour.

The win was pleasant but even pleasantful was the performance of KKR's new players - Shardul Thakur, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Suyash Sharma.
Gurbaz hit a gritty 57 to open the innings while Rinku (46 off 33), Thakur (68 off 29) lifted KKR to 204 for 7 after being reduced to 89 for 5 at one stage while batting first. It was a confidence-boosting innings from Thakur, who had a lot to prove as a T20 all-rounder.
KKR were given the chance to bat first in the match and they achieved a sum of 204 runs after the loss of seven wickets, due to fifties from Gurbaz and Thakur. And in response to the 200-plus target, RCB managed to manage just 123 runs in 17.4 overs.
Gujarat Titans are now at the top of the table having four points from two matches. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings are second with the same number of points but a lower net rate. After their win, KKR climbed to the third position with two points from two matches, followed by Rajasthan Royals at the fourth position with two points from two matches.
Lucknow Super Giants are fifth, Chennai Super Kings are sixth, followed by RCB at seventh. The three teams have the same number of points, the only difference being in net runs. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are eighth, followed by Mumbai Indians at ninth and SunRisers Hyderabad at the bottom of the table.
