IPL 2023: 2nd Match - PBKS vs KKR Highlights
BADSHAHBOOK: Rain marred the match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on the afternoon of 1 April 2023.
Punjab Kings' most expensive recruit Sam Curran dismissed the dangerous Andre Russell at the right time to seal a seven-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders by the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit afternoon Indian Premier League encounter here on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 192, KKR were stranded at 146 for 7 after 16 overs as their hard work was boosted by a heavy downpour. The DLS par score at the time was 153.
Kolkata needed 62 off 32 balls when Curran dismissed Russell on song and Arshdeep removed 'Impact Substitute' Venkatesh Iyer (34), which proved to be the turning point. Russell was bowled at deep mid-wicket and Iyer was cracked at point.
Burly West Indian, Andre Russell fueled up KKR's hopes of a quick turnaround with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while S. Iyer made the first actual impact with his 28-ball knock that got three fours and a six.
KKR got off to a poor start as they were reduced to 29/3 in the first five overs, but a 46-run stand for the fourth wicket between Iyer and skipper Nitish Rana (24 R) brought them back into the contest. Then a 50-run partnership between Iyer and Russell steered them towards a possible chase.
But KKR just didn't have enough firepower in them that day and Arshdeep's brilliant figures of 3/19 in 3 overs were a game changer for the 'Red Devils'.
Arshdeep played a busy second and struck on the first ball to have Mandeep Singh (2) caught by Curran at deep mid-wicket. When Anukul Roy did hit him for a four, the Indian pacer caught the left-handed batsman at short mid-wicket.
Earlier in the first half, Bhanuk Rajapaksa struck with a quick-fire 50 to guide Punjab Kings to a challenging 191 for five against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rajapaksa scored 86 runs for the 2nd wicket along with skipper Shikhar Dhawan (40) that laid a strong platform, while Sam Curran (26 not out) provided a late flurry of batting friendly wickets.

Punjab dominated the first half of the innings with aggressive batting and looked set to cross 200, but KKR managed to get things back under control with regular wickets after Rajapaksa and Dhawan's solid 86-run partnership.
Left-handed Sri Lankan Rajapaksa made the most of the poor lines bowled at him by the KKR bowlers and raced to his first half-century for PBKS this season.
Rajapaksa, who rode on top provided by Prabhsimran Singh (23), ensured that Punjab maintained their dominance while Dhawan played second fiddle throughout his stay.
They did their duty with precision and added 86 runs in just 55 balls for the second wicket.
The Sri Lankan batsman played with KKR's bowling by clearing the ropes and finding gaps, perished only after scoring 50 runs off 32 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Jitesh Sharma hit a couple of sixes and scored a quick 21 off 11 balls as he played his first IPL match, Raza scored 16 off 13 balls with 6 and 4 each.
The start of the second innings was delayed by about 30 minutes due to malfunction of the six floodlights installed here at the PCA Stadium.
