Day 6, Match 8, RR vs PBKS - IPL 2023
BADSHAHBOOK: Rajasthan Royals looked formidable. Previous meetings also provided the same picture. However, on Wednesday, Shikhar Dhawan aka 'Gabbar' and his team proved that mere statistics cannot dictate the fate of a game.
At the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Punjab Kings achieved a thrilling victory after defeating Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals by five runs. Nathan Ellis won the man of the match award for his killer bowling attack. He broke the backbone of a clinical chase by Royals and claimed four wickets. At 4-0-30-4, Ellis' spell gave the Kings complete control of the game.
Later, when Sam Curran was sent to pounce to his death, he proved why he got the big bucks. Wednesday's win is Punjab Kings' second in a row. This keeps their 100% winning record intact. This also means that they have climbed to second place in the points table. Gujarat Titans are ranked first due to their Net Run Rate.
Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) maintained their winning run by beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter in Guwahati on Wednesday. Leading from the front, Dhawan scored an unbeaten 86 off 56 balls to help Punjab pile up 197/4 in 20 overs after they were called to bat first.
Apart from Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh also played his part. He gave Punjab an explosive start alongside Dhawan as the pair added 90 runs for the opening wicket. Prabhsimran was dismissed for 64(34) after which Dhawan added another 50+ partnership with Jitesh Sharma (27 off 16).
In response, Rajasthan sent in R Ashwin to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, but the experiment failed. Rajasthan lost Yashasvi, Ashwin and Jose Buttler in the powerplay before Sanju Samson steadied the ship. Nathan Ellis captured 4 wickets and helped keep things under control for Punjab.
However, lusty knocks from impact players Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer kept Rajasthan in the hunt much before Sam Curran played an amazing finish securing 2 vital points on his side.

Toss and teams
RR opted to bowl first although the venue has recently seemed to be in the favour of the teams batting first. Shikhar Dhawan said there's already some dew in the out-field.
Both the teams, coming off to wins, are unchanged. Surprisingly, RR started with 5 of the frontline bowling options despite they could have easily swapped an extra bowler for a batter in the run chase.
